POSITION DESCRIPTION: Church Administrator (Office Manager)

Saint David’s Episcopal Church and Lutheran Church of the San Juan Islands

Position Overview
Reporting to the priest-in-charge at St. David’s Episcopal Church (St. David’s), the Church Administrator administers the daily operations of St. David’s and the Lutheran Church of the San Juan Islands (LCSJI).  This position is 18-22 hours per week at the St. David’s office in Friday Harbor, WA. There is some ability to set flexible hours. The position is salaried ($32,000 annually) and includes vacation and sick leave. 

 Position Responsibilities

  • Prepare and produce weekly church bulletins and newsletters

  • Maintain church office, calendars, directories and records

  • Establish and maintain office policies, procedures and internal controls

  • Coordinate use and maintenance of church campus facilities, including oversight of lease agreements and special events such as weddings and funerals

  • Create welcoming environment and act as church receptionist, including responding to phone calls, emails, and written correspondence

  • Respond to telephone calls, emails, and written correspondence

  • Perform data entry of financial information, and reconcile bank and investment accounts

  • Provide administrative support to clergy and vestry

  • Supervise contractors (cleaning service, maintenance providers, etc.)

  • Prepare and disseminate various reports and publicity for special events

  • Take out garbage and recycling, and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, as determined and documented by priest-in-charge

  • Five years of successful  experience providing complex and varied administrative support

  • Willingness and ability to maintain highest standards of confidentiality

  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills

  • Strong writing skills and experience with a variety of writing situations (for example: correspondence, newsletters, procedures, etc.)

  • Strong organizational skills and attention-to-detail

  • Proficiency with MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Proficiency with Google Drive or similar file sharing software

  • Proficiency with email and calendaring software

  • Basic understanding of bookkeeping 

  • Experience with financial data entry and willingness/ability to learn Quickbooks

  • Versatility, flexibility and a willingness to adapt to changing priorities
